An why, might you ask, am I, doing, gallavanting around like I own the place, doing dreadful deeds where ever the muse inspires me to go?  Well, take a freakin' guess.  Why does anyone do anything so brazen as to gallavant?

My computer situation has been fixed. Thank the Gods. Well, mostly fixed, can't get the damned DVD drive to work for some reason.

I'm ruminating whether or not I should post more, maybe later.

Thing are moving gently forward.  I've just been accepted into the BYU Young Theater Company, in which there is preforming of Shakespeare for the kiddies; this Fall's show is The Tempest.  I have the nagging assumption that I'm going to be cast as Prospero.

A job is on the way, as the Integrated Studies Department's promoter, in which I will be working more or less unsupervised, and I can continue to dress nice, to boot.

Otherwise I get to look forward to a round of easy A classes the rest of this semester.

Hmm, there is other stuff, which I should have properly documented, suffice to say, it was very interesting and you had to be there.

Today, because I'm sick and have nothing better to do (oh, but I do, more on the in a minute) I started another story.  I know they don't actually go anywhere, but I'm reworking a short story I did about two years ago about a misanthropic bibliophile and strange bookstore owner.  I don't remember what I called it originally, and I would know if I had kept it, but I trashed it in a rage of frustration.  It was too strange and not enough tentacle horror for the tastes of the people I shared it with.  I am keeping the ending though, I really liked the thousands of spiders that climb out of the bookstore's wood work and attack the antagonists to death.  It's current title is Golden Leaf, which is also the title of the bookstore.  I'm about two paragraphs into the rehaul.

So, I'm supposed to get a statement signed today, in spite of the fact that I really shouldn't be traveling around in my condition.  Thanks Mom.  Yesterday she came home and told me to give her my "stolen inheritance" money.  Flat out, no kidding.  I flatly refused of course.  Me, give up my last hope for any kind of freedom from my domineering Mother?  I'd rather be homeless sometimes.  Then she asked me "So what did you accomplish today?"  What?  I'm sick, I'm hacking up my lungs every fifteen minutes and, surprise, I'm still supposed to be playing at butler.  She lucky I put the dishes in the dishwasher.  "What did you accomplish today."  She's losing her mind.

Tomorrow we see if I can actually register for classes.  Please, oh yea mighty Gods, let it be so!

Some of the things I say on here are very, um, whats the word...  Munchausen-esque.  I assure you that I have not in anyway inflated my experiences.  Granted, it does seems rather fantastic, especially if you don't believe in the Norse Gods, supernatural creatures and/or magic.  At least my life is interesting.  In any case, I apologize for having the appearance of fallacy.

New article posted on the Kindred page.  Within I wrote down my perspective on this Kindred's non-use of mead, which I felt was in need of broader reasoning than what is posted in the FAQ section.

Next week is Charming of the Plow.  I invite everyone attending to RSVP ahead of time so that I can get food assignments out.  Even though the pizza and donuts was great during Disablot, healthier food might be good idea next time around (the cheesecake dessert is obviously exempt).

The Fall of Paleopaganism

In the past couple of weeks I've asked about the nature of the gods and myths, now it's time to look at a historical issue - namely the end of traditional paganism or as Isaac Bonewits calls it "Paleopaganism".

Simply how do you explain the relative end of traditional paganism in the West and the rise of Christianity?

Christianity from my perspective is what one would call a "safe" religion.  Let's take Norse Paganism vs Christianity.  The iconic Norse Heathen is an outdoorsman, an adventurer, a warrior and an individual that adds his might to the community.  The iconic Christian is meek, humble, obedient and virtuous.  Now if you were a medieval king, which kind of person would you rather have in your kingdom?  Which kind of person is safer?  See.  It's an easy question.  The main reason for the reemergence of the Pagan religions is that our governments (well, most of them anyway) aren't the needy, controlling tyrants they used to be.  Religion and state go hand in hand, skipping down the road.

Hrimthursar Article Posted!

Straight from the site news:

I have posted an article on the Kindred page named: "Hrimthursar: Thorri and His Kin".  As well as being published here on the Winter's Song Kindred site, it will also be included in a devotional to the Gods of winter, Winter Comes (I'll post more info on it as it approaches it's release date).  It's a very personal work and while it it's main subject, the honoring of the frost giants, may be seen as abberant; I stand by it.  And I am honored to be in a Kindred and a community that supports my perspective.  It should be enough to know that I have researched the subject very throughly and that I have proof to back up my practice.  I hope you enjoy reading it.

So, my piece for Winter Comes is about finished at about 2000 words.  I know that publishing it will give me trouble and little sympathy (contrary to what some of you believe, sympathy can be helpful and a much needed commodity when one is being harassed by idiots).  Now that the Spring is finally on its way here and only the tops of my beloved mountains are white, I hope that you experienced some modicum of wonder during Ullr's reign in Asgard.  I would like to take this time to thank Thorri for all of the sights and experiences that he has saw fit to bestow upon me and my dear friends (although all of them are thick and can't see how amazing the world truly is).  As Odin takes back the throne of the Aesir and Frey stretches his might across the Northern Hemisphere, I hope to find Kari's cold breath on my back, encouraging me to adventure and victory.

PS: It's finished.

So, I ordered my drinking horn from Swords of Honor and guess what?  After a week and two days, they neglected to inform me that my order wouldn't be meeting my deadline.  Whoops.  And if I'm really lucky, I'll have it just in time for Disablot next Wednesday.  Since when should I have to wait two and a half weeks when I paid for four days?  EPIC FAIL  So dear reader, before buying from Swords of Honor, call ahead, and make sure they have what you desire, otherwise they'll stick you in the kidneys.

If you'll head over to the Kindred page you'll be able to read a short article I wrote concerning the topics of science and spirituality and how to make them fit together like a round peg in a square hole.  I think its possible, if the square hole's size is just so.

The snow banks in the area are massive and I barely had to scrape across the pavement as I tromped around in my snowshoes.  The snow fell lightly all around and the night was still except for the crunching of ice and the rubber binding straining against my boot.  My friends and I are going to go sledding this Saturday afternoon; I might take my snowshoes as well as my sleds/tube.

I'm anxious to start college again, and just as anxious to start working again too.  The career fair is tomorrow, so hopefully something will come out of that.  I've already decided what classes I'm taking this summer semester: Mountain Biking, Backpacking, Rock Climbing 1, English 1010, and Social and Cultural Anthropology.  I can't wait to buy a new pack and mountain bike (and get into better shape).
